About

Modern Maharani

Royalty for the modern girl.

Modern Maharani is an Indian ethnic-wear and statement-accessories house built for the girl who lives between two worlds. The one who answers Slack messages in chikankari and posts Reels in a sequin saree. The one who treats a hangtag like a love letter and a hand-beaded purse like an heirloom.

Our story

We started Modern Maharani because the ethnic-wear aisle was stuck in 1998. Either it was "festival-only" and stiff, or "fusion" but soulless. We wanted the in-between — sarees you'd wear to a brunch, kurtis that travel from Zoom to Diwali, mobile purses you'd actually use on a Friday night.

What we make

  • Sarees & Lehengas — sourced from Kanchipuram, Varanasi, Yeola, and Lucknow. Hand-woven, hand-embroidered, by name-able artisans.
  • Tunics & Co-Ord Sets — block-printed in Bagru, mirror-worked in Kutch, finished in our Mumbai studio.
  • Mobile Purses & Crystal Clutches — bead-by-bead and crystal-by-crystal, by artisan craftswomen we work with directly.
  • Heritage Watches — kundan and polki settings around quartz movements. Half watch, half jewellery.

How we work

  • Small batches. No mass production.
  • Direct partnerships with karigars — fair pay, fair credit.
  • Free shipping pan-India. COD available.
  • Easy 7-day return on unworn, unaltered pieces with tags intact.

Heritage, reimagined for now.
